In a recent post I wrote about 2 of the 5 Key Components needed for reversing Osteoporosis… in case you missed reading Part 1 click here…

I hope you are not buying into the philosphy that the only way to reverse Osteoporosis is to take pharmaceutical drugs. You CAN live vibrantly, have optimal health AND reverse this condition naturally.

The key is making sure you are incorporating all five components into your Osteoporosis Program. Any program that lacks one or more of these componenets is incomplete…and therefore you will get incomplete results.

As a review, Here are the five key components:

  1. Exercise
  2. Osteo-Blast Methodology
  3. Nutrition
  4. Supplements
  5. Managing Stress

This week let’s take a closer look at Nutrition and Supplements.

3. NUTRITION
There’s a saying, “When diet is wrong, medicine is of no use, when diet is correct, medicine is of no need.”

Nutrition is a critical part for attaining optimal health. Learning how to eat healthy and incorporating healthy, balanced meals into your daily life is important for everyone.

The phrase, “eating healthy” is so general, and let’s face it, there’s so many different diets out there it’s confusing to make sense of it all and to know what to do.

Through my research and in working with holistic, homeopathic doctors when it comes to optimal health there’s one plan that stands out. This plan includes lots of plant-based foods, nuts, seeds, healthy fats, beans, legumes, vegetables and fruit. You don’t have to be vegetarian or vegan, but you do limit your animal proteins.

I suggest the 80/20 rule — that is — 80% of your meal is plant-based and the other 20% is animal-based. Why??

This type of diet is sometimes referred to as a PH Balanced diet. All plant-based foods are alkaline in nature, whereas animal-based foods are acidic. Your body must maintain a 7.3 PH level.

Acidic foods have PH of 1 – 6.9, Alkaline foods have PH 7 – 14. If you are eating lots of acidic foods your body has to work extra hard to bring the PH level up to around 7.3.

The body will use many methods to balance the PH, including leaching Calcium from the bone and Magnesium from the muscles.

PH Balanced diets as mentioned above are critical for optimal health. Research has shown a PH Balanced diet will help to reverse other conditions like heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure as well as reversing cancer.

Eating a PH Balanced diet is critical, however, there are some nutrients that are difficult to get in food. For this reason, there are supplements needed in order to help and support your body to grow healthy bone faster.

4. SUPPLEMENTS
When you think of Osteoporosis and supplements most people think Calcium. Yes Calcium is important — HOWEVER, it is easy to get most of the Calcium you need through food.  Here’s a list of some of the foods high in Calcium:

  • Sesame Seeds – Especially Black
  • Chea Seeds
  • Almonds
  • Dark Leafy Greens
  • Quinoa
  • Beans
  • Broccoli
  • Oranges

It should be pointed out that too much Calclum can be counterproductive in growing healthy bone AND can cause other health issues. Too much Calcium will prevent Osteoblast cells from maturing! Osteoblast cells are needed to grow healthy bone! Too much Calcium can cause calcification in the arteries, joints and may produce kidney stones.

Calcium is not the answer — If you would like to read more about the effects of too much Calcium, read this article.

Supplements that are difficult to get in food include Vitamin D3. 3 oz of Salmon has about 400 IUs, 1 cup of mushrooms has 2 IUs. To support heathy bone growth this is way too little of Vitamin D3. Another way for the body to naturally produce Vitamin D is to get 10-20 minutes of sunlight each day. For some, depending on where you live and different times of the year this may not be possible.

Prior to taking a Vitamin D3 supplement I suggest you get a Vitamin D blood test to determine if you are low and then from there can determine the amount needed.

My Osteoporosis program includes a very specific supplement protocol that has been medically proven to support the body in growing healthy bone faster. I have standard amounts for each supplement and suggest specific blood tests.

It is important not to over or underload on any of the supplements. Depending on what you may already be taking (multi-vitamin, etc.) you might find you are overloading and will need to adjust. My program includes a handy excel spreadsheet to figure out if you are under or over on specific supplements. This will help you to figure out the exact amounts you need to reverse Osteoporosis.

Stay tune, I’ll be sharing the last component — Managing Stress — in Part 3. I will give you techniques you can begin to practice to reduce your stress throughout the day.

In the meantime, if you know someone who has Osteoporosis please share this article with them. There are over 40 million people in the US alone that have been diagnosed. It’s important to start reversing… or better yet start incorporating these key components into your daily life before you are diagnosed. You CAN reverse as well as prevent the condition naturally.

I offer free private one on one consultations. In these sessions we talk about where you are on your path to optimal health, your dexa scores and how reversing is possible. I’d love to chat with you, please schedule your free session today!
