Is Your Morning Coffee Making You Sick?

August 12, 2017

There’s conflicting information out there about coffee. Some wellness experts indicate there are health benefits in drinking coffee, including reducing the risk of type II diabetes, Parkinsons and Alzheimer’s …. while other experts tell you coffee is harmful to your health.

The acidity in coffee may cause indigestion, imbalances in your gut flora, it can elevate urinary excretion of important minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium and certain medications such as levothyroxine (thyroid) are poorly absorbed when drinking coffee.

With conflicting information from the experts you are probably asking, “What should I believe?” and “Should I give up coffee?”

Although the experts claim the benefits of coffee – if you eat a healthy diet, lots of fresh, whole, nutritious foods including lots of vegetables and other plant-based foods and stay away from sugary, processed foods then you’re much less likely to have type II disabetes, Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s.

One of the issues I personally have with drinking coffee is the high acidic PH level — most coffee is around 2.0 PH – which puts it at an extremely high acidic value. Why is this an issue?

Your body must maintain a PH level of around 7.2 — when you drink coffee your body must find a way to maintain this PH level. One of the ways it does this is by finding alkaline in your body to balance the PH level. Calcium and Magnesium are very alkaline. The body will leach these minerals out of the bones in order for maintain the 7.2 PH level.

Why risk drinking coffee? Instead how about finding an alkaline coffee alternative?

I’ve been doing some research and have found a few alternatives that taste great, are alkaline and have other health benefits that you might want to try.

Please keep in mind I am not affiliated with any of these products. Simply giving you a few alternatives I have tried that satisfy my craving for that morning cup of Joe.

  1. Teeccino – My all time favorite, Teeccino Herbal Coffees & Teas have the rich flavor of coffee with the health benefits of herbal tea.  You can brew Teeccino like coffee or steep it like tea. Coffee lovers desire Teeccino’s nutritious health benefits with its natural energy boost from nutrients, not stimulants. There are many flavors to choose from.
  2. TruCup – TruCup is a low-acid coffee, they have removed the acids that can be harmful to your health – but have left in all the flavor and caffeine… so if you are still looking for that morning ‘buzz’ this might be a great alternative for you.
  3. Rasa Coffee – This is an expertly crafted herbal blend using the wisdom of Ayurveda, Chinese Medicine and Herbal Remedies. A great and healthy alternative.

I believe the harmful affects of coffee outweigh the benefits, there are alternative solutions for that coffee craving and by eating a diet heavy in plant-based foods you will stay healthy and strong.
