6 oz water

1 orange with rind and seeds

1 pear with skin and seeds

2 TBSP goji berries

1 TBSP coconut manna/butter

1 TBSP honey (RAW)

1 TBSP chia seeds

1 scoop protein powder

4 – 6 ice cubes

THE INGREDIENT LOWDOWN:

An orange has over 170 different phytochemicals and more than 60 flavonioids!  These phytochemicals and flavonoids have anti-inflammatory properties and stong antioxidant effects. Besides providing a high amount of vitamin C associated with boosting the immune system, oranges contain vitamin B, phosperorus, magnesium, manganese, selenium and copper.

Pears are an excellent source of vitamin C and vitamin E, both powerful antioxidants and essential nutrients, they are higher in pectin than apples.  Pears are frequently recommended by health care practitioners as a hypoallergenic fruit because of their high fiber content. They are less likely to produce an adverse response than other fruits.  Pears are a great choice for boosting the immune system because they are high in L-Lysine.  L-Lysine is an amino acid, it plays an important role in the immune system in that it promotes the development of antibodies and also has antiviral properties. Studies have shown L-lysine prevents against the herpes virus and can help prevent shingles.

Why the seeds? Seeds are a natural cancer fighter, many seeds from fruits contain trace amounts of cyanide. In small amounts this is not harmful to the body, in fact it will help to kill off abnormal cells. Let nature be thy medicine!

Goji Berries, also called Wolfberries, have long been enjoyed in China and the Himalayas for their sweet taste and bright color. Their history as a medicinal plant has roots in ancient China, where goji berries are used to treat eye, liver, and kidney ailments. They are extremely high in vitamin A, beta-carotene, and they have a low glycemic index, meaning they will not spike your blood sugar. The high amount of antioxidants in goji berries, especially zeaxanthin, protects cells against breaking down when they are exposed to elements like smoke, pollution and radiation.

Coconut Manna/Butter — first off, if you have never tasted coconut butter, OMG will be your first response — it’s delicious! It’s only ingredient is coconut and it is rich in lauric acid, which boosts immunity and destroys harmful bacteria, viruses, and funguses.

Honey contains a hidden treasure chest of nutritional and medicinal properties. It is loaded with antibacterial and antifungal properties that has been used for centuries. Honey has been known to reduce seasonal allergy symptoms because it contains small amounts of pollen. When the body is exposed to small amounts of honey it can trigger an immune response that produces antibodies to the pollen. Manuka honey has antibacterial properties for wound healing and the H-Pylori (ulcer) virus.

Chia Seeds are a nutrient dense food and boosts your immune system. They are high in fiber and create a gelatin-like substance when eaten.  This gel-forming action is due to the soluble fiber in chia seeds and works as a prebiotic supporting the growth of probiotics in the gut. Chia seeds are rich in alpha lineic acid (or ALA) which is an Omega-3 fatty acid. Recently in 2013, the Journal of Molecular Biochemistry found that ALA limited the growth of cancer cells in both breast and cervical cancers. They also found it caused cell death of the cancer cells without harming the normal healthy cells.  I use TresOmega’s Organic Chia Seeds, you can order them online or find them at Sams Club.
