GINGER & TURMERIC RICE
Rice can be kinda boring, the turmeric in this recipe makes the rice a nice bright sunny yellow, the rice is more flavorful and adds health benefits. Try this ginger and turmeric rice recipe to liven things up!
NOTE: If you are using a rice cooker follow the measurements for the rice/water ratio. If you are using a sauce pan to steam your rice use the rice/water ratio listed below.
2 Cups Brown Rice
4 Cups Water
4 – 1/8″ Slices Fresh Ginger
2 tsp Ground Turmeric
2 tsp Himalayan Salt
Place all ingredients in sauce pan, bring to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer, cover and cook for 45 minutes.
Turmeric is known for reducing pain, inflammation, it’s anti-cancer properties as well as detoxifictaion. The yellow/orange pigment in the turmeric root is called curcumin. If you are purchasing fresh turmeric root it should be cooked and not eaten raw. Cooking makes the curcumin more bioavailable in the body. Also adding a little black pepper to turmeric helps open the pores of the stomach for better absorption.
Ginger root brings warmth to digestion. Among the phytochemicals in ginger are ginerol and zingerone. Research studies have shown gingerol will cause cancer cells to die. Both raw and heated ginger will result in a reduction of pain. If you are suffering from joint pain combining ginger and turmeric will help with inflammation and reduce your pain.
