Following The Light

April 11, 2016

Tao Te ChingThe Tao Te Ching, a book of wisdom written many centuries ago, continues to be a valuable resource for achieving a way of life that guarantees integrity, joy, peace and balance. It is comprised of only 81 short verses, yet so powerful! One of my favorite verses is the 27th, it translates as:

A knower of the truth travels  without leaving a trace, speaks without causing harm, gives without keeping an account.

The door he shuts, though having no lock, cannot be opened.

The knot he ties, though using no cord, cannot be undone.

Be wise and help all beings impartially, abandoning none.

Waste no opportunities.

This is called following the light.

Lao-tzu advises us to give without keeping an account or expecting anything in return. This is the nature of the Tao. When you follow the light, giving and receiving are synonymous. Lao-tzu is advising us to trust the inner light to guide you, to live spontaneously. Practice this and you can travel without being attached to a plan and you will have no worries or fears. STRESS FREE!

By following the advise in this verse, giving of yourself becomes your natural response. You and giving are one because you are following the light.

In verse 27, Lao-tzu teaches us not to criticize or judge others based on appearance or behavior. To help all beings impartially. If we all did this we would accomplish peace on Earth. Peace starts with you.

Trust In Your Higher Self. Trust your inner ‘knowing’, this wisdom created you. Allow yourself to trust the energy of the Universe. All situations bring with them opportunity and the Tao tells us to waste none.

How to live the Tao? I invite you to find one person today to reach out to. Give them a gift of some sort. This could be something as simple as a genuine, warm smile. Or perhaps placing a flower on their desk. Make a phone call to someone who is alone or visit a nursing home and talk to one of the residents. Follow the light and follow the Tao.
